Application Note: Wireless Monitoring of Rail System Track Geometry

Non-intrusive solutions to measure high-speed rail infrastructure conditions

Track geometry issues are among the leading causes of increased maintenance costs, and they also result in increased risk to passenger and crew safety. Factors such as normal wear, inadequate upkeep, and environmental conditions can all contribute to faulty track systems, making it vital for companies to monitor track geometry regularly.

LORD Microstrain wireless nodes enable convenient remote monitoring, are easy to install and maintain, and can be customized to any rail system. We recently partnered with France's SNCF to optimize track geometry monitoring.

Tech Note: V-Link High Cycle Vibration and Function Test

Tech Note Author Dan O'Neil

A specific application of interest required that the V-Link-LXRS survive 2.52 x 108 cycles in a 0-5G peak environment. A V-Link was installed on our shaker table with an external power source and precision signal generator connected to one of the analog inputs. The signal generator was configured to output 1.5 V zero-to-peak sinusoidal at 50Hz.

LORD MicroStrain Senior Mechanical Engineer Dan O'Neil explores the results in our latest Tech Note.
