Publication:

LORD MicroStrain earned the award for its custom-designed Quality Management module, an integral part of the company’s Product Lifecyle Management (PLM) system. PLM tracks a product from inception through design, manufacture and sales, centralizing information to efficiently integrate all involved parties.

Now in their tenth year, the Manufacturing Leadership Awards honor companies and individuals that are shaping the future of global manufacturing. Nominations are entered into 11 categories and are evaluated and scored by a panel of expert judges. Nine of the ML Awards categories are for outstanding projects undertaken and completed by a manufacturing company. Two categories recognize the achievements of individual manufacturing leaders.

LORD MicroStrain built the module from Omnify Software’s Empower PLM, which has been in use at the company since 2007. LORD MicroStrain’s Quality Management module provides engineers with updated, organized information, resulting in a fast and efficient way to resolve customers’ issues. Building on Omnify’s Empower software, it tracks vital quality information such as Non-Conforming Material Reports, Corrective and Preventive Actions, and Return Material Authorizations, automatically providing email updates to all affected parties and maintaining a comprehensive record to more easily track issues and solutions.

“It was a simple decision to adapt the Empower Quality module to fit the needs of our company,” said Mike Jewett, LORD MicroStrain’s senior quality engineer. “We tested a 30-day trial and found it easy to use, and the training of our engineers was simple. All of our quality and product record information is now centralized in one, easy-to-use system.”

The Manufacturing Leadership Council will present the award to LORD MicroStrain during the 10th Annual Manufacturing Leadership Summit, to be held June 3-5, 2014, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla.
