MicroStrain Earns Award for Innovation in Technology for LXRS Wireless Sensing Systems

Last week, MicroStrain, a LORD Company, was one of the many Vermont technology companies that participated in the Vermont Tech Jam, a two-day job fair and tech expo that highlights some of Vermont's fast-growing, innovative companies.  This year, VT Tech Jam recognized MicroStrain with an Innovation in Technology Award for the LXRS Wireless Sensing System.  MicroStrain's Lossless, Extended Range, time Synchronized (LXRS) wireless communications protocols represent a breakthrough for wireless sensing systems, providing 100% data transmission success rates and providing up to 2 kilometers of wireless transmission distance. Now, sensor users can get wireless simplicity with hardwired reliability.

 

Since the product was released in June 2012, hundreds of LXRS wireless sensor networks have been delivered across many unique applications.  For example, MicroStrain's energy harvesting wireless sensors with LXRS have been integrated on helicopters, trains, earth moving equipment, and farming operations.  

In these applications, and in many others, MicroStrain's systems have proven that they can reliably "sense the future," resulting in reduced operating costs, enhanced mission readiness, and increased safety.

Tech Tips and Tricks: Synchronized Sampling on Startup

Each month we offer a new technical note from our support team, Traci Barrows, Andrew Deering and Barry Trutor. This month Andrew explains the Synchronized Sampling on Startup function available in our Wireless Sensor Networks.

 

There are any number of situations where deployment of MicroStrain's LXRS(TM) wireless sensor nodes can be facilitated by utilizing the nodes' Synchronized Sampling on Startup function. The typical deployment approach is to install the nodes in situ, turn the nodes on, configure the nodes one by one after installation, and begin data collection by manually starting synchronized sampling.  However, it may make more sense to configure all the nodes in the lab, mount (and turn on) the nodes in situ, and begin data collection automatically.  The latter approach can be valuable in cases where mounting is precarious, such as a bridge superstructure, or where communications may be spotty or interrupted from time to time.
