LORD Launches New 3DM-GX5 Inertial Sensor with Best-in-Class GNSS/INS Technology

(Cary, NC – October 7, 2016) – LORD Sensing-MicroStrain–a global leader in developing embedded sensing systems–has introduced the latest generation in its award-winning line of inertial sensors. The 3DM-GX5-45 GNSS/INS inertial sensor includes the latest technology to provide highly precise and accurate measurements of position, velocity, attitude, atmospheric pressure, acceleration, and angular rate.

Building on the success of the pervious GX4 line of inertial sensors, the GX5 features extremely stable and low-noise gyros, a new accelerometer with noise densities as low as 25μg/√Hz, a multi-constellation GNSS receiver, and M7 and M4 dual Cortex processors running a new Auto-Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter. The innovative Kalman Filter has been proven to provide outstanding attitude accuracy, with almost negligible roll error during turns and other sudden course shifts.

The GX5’s footprint is approximately 44 mm x 36 mm x 11 mm, and it weighs less than 20 grams. Those specifications, along with the sensor’s superior low-noise accelerometer and temperature compensation, combine to make the GX5 the highest-performing industrial inertial sensor in its class.

“Our GX5 inertial sensor also offers simple integration for the customer,” said Fritz Martin, LORD Sensing Manager of Inertial Engineering. “Because it shares the same miniature footprint and API as our earlier inertial lines, our users can quickly and easily drop in the GX5 to their existing application.”

Ideal applications for the GX5 sensor include: platform stabilization, camera/antenna pointing, GNSS-aided navigation, unmanned vehicles, regime monitoring, and personnel tracking.

Using LORD Sensing’s innovative MIP protocol enables easy data acquisition and evaluation with higher reliability in communication and control. As part of a scalable LORD Sensing network, which includes SensorConnect™ software for data visualization and SensorCloud™ for data analysis and storage, the 3DM-GX5-45 can remotely collect massive amounts of data from virtually anywhere in the world.
