Cornell University Engineering Students Earn First Place in RoboSub Competition; Use MicroStrain's IMU Sensor
 

MicroStrain is proud to support the Cornell University Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (CUAUV)CUAUV LogoEngineering Project Team.  This summer, the team earned a first -place win in the 2012 International AUVSI RoboSub Competition, giving them the title of "four-time World Champion."

 

The team integrated one of our 3DM Inertial Measurement Units in the design of their underwater vehicle to measure the vehicle's acceleration, velocity and spatial orientation.  MicroStrain's line of advanced inertial sensors provide a range of measurement options including orientation (pitch, roll, yaw or azimuth), single axis or dual axis inclination, linear acceleration, and angular rate. We offer simple inclinometers (or tiltmeters), inertial measurement units (IMUs), attitude heading reference systems (AHRS), and integrated GPS systems.

Tech Tips and Tricks: Using the 3DM-GX3®-45 with Bluetooth® RS-232 Adapters

Each month we offer a new technical note from our support team, Traci Barrows, Andrew Deering and Barry Trutor.  In many cases, these technical notes are the result of supporting customers who are integrating MicroStrain products with other equipment and systems.  This month Barry explains using Bluetooth® RS-232 adapters to establish wireless communications between the 3DM-GX3®-45 Miniature GPS-Aided Inertial Navigation System and its host computer. 

 

MicroStrain's 3DM-GX3®-45 high-performance, miniature GPS-Aided Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS) combines MEMS inertial sensors, a highly-sensitive embedded GPS receiver, and a complex Extended Kalman Filter to generate optimal position, velocity, and attitude (PVA) estimates.  It is currently available with RS-232 and USB communication interfaces.  A wireless communication interface can easily be added by employing off-the-shelf Bluetooth® RS-232 adapters.
