MicroStrain inertial sensors help Team Explorer, from Carnegie Mellon and Oregon State University win the first 2019 DARPA challenge event. with both aerial and ground robots.
The August 2019 event, known as "The Tunnel Circuit", required that teams detect and locate artifacts within less than 8" of their actual location. In the course of two days runs, Team Explorer located 25 of these objects, 14 more than any other team. Team leaders observed that successful completion required multiple robots, both drones and ground vehicles. Team Explorer has a wealth of experience operating robots in mines, enclosed spaces, and coordinating the actions of multiple robots.
